Sorbond®/Quik-Solid® General Overview
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency passed the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) in 1984. This ruling established two criteria for disposal of solid waste into industrial landfills:
- Paint Filter Liquids Test (PFT): A standard to determine the presence of free liquids in bulk or containerized waste.
- Toxicity Characteristic Leach Procedure (TCLP): A standard to determine the compressive strength and release of heavy metals from bulk or containerized waste.
Wastes to be disposed of in industrial landfills must first pass PFT to assure there is no presence of free standing liquids. If these solids contain heavy metals, they then may be required to pass limits imposed by TCLP . This is a procedure designed to simulate landfill conditions, where solids are subjected to high compressive strengths and low pH conditions from the decomposition of organic matter. The TCLP assures that these solids will not re-release heavy metals in the form of leachate. CETCO offers 2 types of products for the stabilization and solidification of sludge and semi-solids generated from dredging, remediation operations and general industrial applications.
